Father - Francisco Mercado (1818–1898)

       Francisco Engracio Rizal Mercado y Alejandro

      The father of the Philippines' national hero.

      He studied Latin and philosophy at Colegio de San Jose in Manila. 



Mother - Teodora Alonso (1827-1913)

      Teodora Alonso Realonda de Quintos

      Best known as the mother of the Philippines' national hero.

      Also known for being a disciplinarian and hard-working mother.

      Her medical condition inspired Rizal to take up medicine.

Saturnina (Neneng) (1850–1913) 

      Saturnina Mercado Rizal de Hidalgo

      Eldest child of the Rizal-Alonzo marriage.

      Married to Manuel Timoteo Hidalgo of Tanauan, Batangas.

      Children are Alfredo Rizal Hidalgo, Amelia Rizal Hidalgo, Abelardo Rizal Hidalgo, Adela Rizal Hidalgo, Augusto Rizal Hidalgo

Paciano (Lolo Ciano) (1851–1930)

      General Paciano Mercado Rizal aka "Lolo Ciano".

      Second child in the family.

      His daughter is Severina Decena.

      Filipino general and revolutionary.

      Founding member of La Juventud Liberal.

      He died due to tuberculosis 


Narcisa (Sisa) (1852–1939)

      Narcisa Mercado Rizal Lopez.

      Third child in the family.

      Married to  Antonio Lopez who was a teacher and musician from Morong, Rizal.

      Children are Emilio, Angélica, Isabel, Consuelo, Leoncio, Francisco, Arsenio, Antonio and Fidela.

      A teacher and a musician by profession.

Olimpia (1855-1887)

      Olympia Rizal Ubaldo

      Fourth child in the family.

      Married to Silvestre Ubaldo, a telegraph operator from Manila.

      Children are Cesario Rizal Ubaldo, Aristeo Rizal Ubaldo and Baby Ubaldo. 


Lucia (1857–1919)

      Lucia Rizal Herbosa.

      Fifth child in the family.

      Married to Mariano Herbosa of Calamba, Laguna.

      Children are Paz, Delfina, Concepcion, Virginia, José,Teodosio, Patrocinio, and Estanislao.


María (Biang) (1859–1945)

      Maria Mercado Realonda Cruz.

      Sixth child in the family.

      Married to Daniel Faustino Cruz of Biñan,Laguna.

      Children are Mauricio, Encarnación, Paz, Petrona, and Prudencio

      A known recipient of many of Jose's letters during his lifetime. 


José Protasio (Pepe) (1861–1896)

      José Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda.

      Second son and the seventh child in the family.

      The national hero of the Philippines.

      Filipino nationalist, writer and revolutionary.

      Author of Noli Me Tángere, El Filibusterismo and a number of poems and essays.

      An ophthalmologist by profession.

      Married to Marie Josephine Leopoldine Bracken. 


Concepción (Concha) (1862–1865)

      Concepcion Alonso Mercado Rizal

      Eight child in the family.

      Concepcion did not live very long as she died at the age of 3 in 1865.



Josefa (Panggoy) (1865–1945)

      Josefa Mercado Rizal.

      Ninth child in the family.

      She was unmarried lived together with sister Trinidad until her death.

      Josefa was said to have suffered from epilepsy.

      An epileptic, died a spinster.


Trinidad (1868–1951)

      Trinidad Mercado Rizal.

      Tenth child in the family.

      She was unmarried lived together with sister Josefa.

      Filipina feminist leader and co-founder of the Philippines' first feminist organization, the Asociación Feminista Filipina (AFF).

      Also a member of Walana, a Filipino masonry society.

      Died a spinster and the last of the family to die.


Soledad (Choleng) (1870–1929)

      Soledad Alonso Quintero.

      The youngest child in the family.

      Married to Pantaleon Quintero of Calamba, Laguna.

      Children are Ramon, Amelia, Maria, Serafin, and Feliz.

      A teacher and was considered as the best educated among the sisters of Rizal.

      Married to Luis Fernández Beliso Sr. and their child is Luis.
